SA – POINT OF NO RETURN

I have observed the political scene in SA for many years I would like to share my thoughts on the future of the country. But I must warn you, my comments are not encouraging. It is not my intention to predict doom and gloom but rather to bring some facts to light so that some South Africans can be more prepared and aware of the situation. I am no expert, and my comments are purely based on my own personal observations. I truly hope that I am wrong.

Some quick background: I am a South African male and was born shortly before the Nationalists took power of The Union of South Africa in 1948. I am from Dutch, German and English descent and my Great–Great-Great Grandfather was an Englishman who farmed in the Eastern Cape in 1812, so my family history goes back several generations. I consider myself an African.

Although I was not old enough to vote in the late 1950’s when there was a general election, I followed and supported the United Party and thought that their policy of giving the vote to all on a ‘qualified franchise’ basis was very fair. South Africa would be totally different today had they been voted in then. To the Nationalist Party and to those who continued to vote them into power for more than 45 years – SHAME ON YOU. It is you, and you alone with your narrow minded ideologies who have ruined our once magnificent country. To those who voted for the ANC in the 1994 elections, you were either ignorant, uneducated or lived in a dream world. Could you not see what you were voting for? And to those who still today support the ANC – you are fools or you are corrupt. At the 1994 elections I volunteered as a party monitor for the IFP and observed a few disturbing things at the polling hall where I was stationed. Firstly, the attitude of all the ANC officials was that of already being in power. The ANC party monitor was incompetent in doing what was required of her – not her fault, she was just put there, but it was certainly an indication of how the ANC would give any position to unqualified people who were ‘one of them’. But what disturbed me most was that many of the people who were ‘told’ to vote for the ANC , were not residents from the local area. In fact they spoke a dialect that wasn’t even used in South Africa – they were from Angola! There were already hundreds of thousands then – not thousands, of illegal immigrants pouring into South Africa who were given the vote and who were encouraged by the ANC. The ANC wanted to make sure their numbers would wipe out any opposition and they did. Since then, as we all know, millions more from all parts of Africa are flooding into South Africa. There is simply not enough work, food nor shelter for these ‘foreigners’ (another word for illegal immigrants), let alone the millions of other unemployed South Africans which means they WILL HAVE TO COMMIT CRIME AND STEAL from others in order to survive – and at any cost! There’s no need to go into details about this – we can see what’s been happening. I saw the possibility of this coming and it was the very next day after the 1994 elections, even before the election results were known, that I decided it was time to get out of South Africa. One year later when all the immigration papers came through I finally left SA with my wife and children. It took several years to settle down in a new country and I hadn’t been following the South African political scene and was just hoping that things were working out for all in SA during that time. The thought ‘did I do the wise thing about leaving the country of my birth and of my forefathers’ occurred to me often during those first 8 years or so. However, with all the recent events in SA I’ve started reading up on the news and I spend long hours on the internet reading the views of many. I now see South Africa from a different perspective and have come to some conclusions, but they are not good.

South Africa, Southern Africa, and most of Africa is doomed.
It has reached a point of no return.
It is clear that the ANC’s plan is to eventually rule ALL OF SOUTHERN AFRICA.
Leave the country NOW if you can.
Encourage your children to marry someone from overseas.
Try and get a family member or friend overseas to sponsor you if you are having problems with emigration qualifications. Get advice from emigration lawyers.
Students - apply for work overseas as soon as you qualify, even better if you can study overseas. Do not return to South Africa. Become an illegal immigrant there if need be.
For those who cannot leave, and I know there are many, group together – create secure, safe communities. ARM YOUSELVES. Do your best to be self sufficient. It will take 40 – 50 years for things to become more civilized again.
As a last resort, get on a plane or ship, leave your belongings behind, and just go somewhere, anywhere away from Africa and become a refugee. I think the rest of the western world will eventually realize what is really going on in Africa and will come to your help.

[...] More than a week ago I wrote the following: Yet another indicator of how bad things are in Zimbabwe? Even with the recent explosions of xenophobic violence aimed at foreigners and especially Zimbabweans in South Africa, huge numbers of immigrants continue to cross the border and head directly for the maelstrom in Johannesburg and its environs. They have undertaken the quick calculus and decided that whatever is going on in South Africa is no match for what they confront on a daily basis in Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwe. [...]

Ricardo --
I'm not certain who you are arguing with quite so ardently. Who says this is new? Look at the category links on the right side of the page and check out "crime" and you'll see that since this blog began i have been writing about crime issues. Furthermore, I have a hard time taking seriously any argument that maintains that crime has been underplayed in South Africa.
However, as the the specific point of my post, say what you will, the scale and degree and nature of this particular paroxysm of violence is different and it is new. The xenophobic nature and large scale of recent events is quite different, as a perusal not of European or American papers but of South African papers will make clear.

Thanks for reading and writing --

Is the only difference between today and a few weeks ago the fact that it is now hitting international news???

How many murders are there on a daily basis? How many rapes? How many (white, black, Indian) people suffer mercilessly at the hands of criminals on a daily basis there?

How many of us <a href='http://r2p2g.eu' rel="nofollow">South Africans living in Europe</a>, live here because this is <b>NOT NEWS TO US!</b>

I'm sorry for what is happening in SA. <b>Very sorry</b>.

But I am <b>"happy"</b> that the rest of the world is <b>finally</b> taking notice of something that has been a problem for <b>years</b>!

This is not news. This was "day-to-day" life for many of us when we were still in SA - wasn't it?
